enjoying my long weekend + fanfic stuff

I had a long weekend due to the holiday (yay!) - I stayed inside Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (LOL, I have been spending too much money lately so I stayed in). I got overly ambitious with the previous week’s (May 17th) visit to H-Mart so I ended up getting some veggies that I didn’t cook in time and went bad (SAD for wasted food and money).

I did manage to get some chores done!

I got a new side locker-style cabinet to replace an area beside my shelf. It stores the cat litter and cat stuff for easier access. Here’s an okay-ish photo of it in the background. My previous situation was more like a bin where I had to unstack everything for access.

Finally put my laundry away (my least favorite chore). I’m still trying to purge the things “I don’t wear” and it’s tricky. I also put away a good amount of my winter/sweater stuff so they are stored away for the season.

Momo and Poppy enjoy the days I put my laundry away because they get access to the forbidden room (my closet) - there are lots of nooks and crannies and shelves for Momo to get into. They are usually not allowed to go in the closet because I have a fear that they will accidentally lock themselves in.

I drew OC things a little bit! I’m trying to get past the frustration of being rusty at drawing too. You can view it on my bluesky for now...

fanfic talk

I’m starting to get back into (some) fandom stuff. I’ve been craving some long slowburn stories and finally read one that I think would be considered a fandom classic. It was 400k words (daunting!!) and apparently it was A Big Deal in fandom when it was actively updating.

I find that a lot of the times if a fic is over 100k words, there’s a good chance that It’s Not That Good, Actually (pacing is off, things could have been cut), but it’s really nice when the word count DOES make sense.

I also enjoy when the writer has a long Author Notes and also takes the time to explain their thoughts/process in writing. I found it really funny that they added in an outline of a discarded sequel where they couldn’t help themselves but destroy the pairing LOL. Story 1 has a HEA/HFN ending and then the (potential) story 2 ending has a bittersweet one where they don’t end up stay together.

I’m glad they decided not to pursue the story and just kept it as a fantasy sequel outline. Lol I can see a lot of fandom people getting mad at the ending. Dirchansky just shared a post that I think resonates with fans going too far with what they expect from someone’s work they are reading/watching/etc (We Might Have to Get a Little Less Fandom-y).

But yes, the fic destroyed me so good and I think it’s one of those fics that you could read without being in the fandom.

Now I’m going back through my bookmarks and re-reading some of my other fandom favs :)
