yes tip me coffee i love coffee

I love having 3 caffeinated drinks and no water every day please (this is a joke lol).

On a funnily timed post - my boss just asked me if I wanted a 2nd coffee for the day. And of course my answer is yes!!
Ok, I don’t have more to say on the coffee thing other than it’s never bothered me if someone has a tip/ko-fi/buy me a coffee link/$1 club thing, etc. I don’t even mind if someone chooses to paywall their posts (through patreon or substack or etc).
Also, is this blog post old? The only reason I thought to post about this is because I saw brennan’s post come up in my feed.
On a related note:
Something that always sparks a lot of conversation in the artist community is turning on tips on your POS (usually square) at markets. I know a good number of customers will think WHAT, why is this artist asking for more money?
I used to think think that too.
A few years ago, I had a convention attendee (who bought my art) tell me to turn my tips on because they wanted to support me and be able to give me more money. So I steeled my heart and the anxiety of having to walk people through the tips screen and turned the tip options on.
Also I realize that tips are like... a fully American thing, but I sometimes also have the thought of “damn this artist is underpricing themselves, I wish I could pay them more”.
Anyways, enough with the words, I’m here to report my tip percentages.
Square currently charges a processing fee of 2.6% + 15c anytime anyone makes a credit card transaction at my table. Additionally, I collect and remit sales tax.
Ikkicon 2026: Collected about 3.47% in tips
Otakon 2025: Collected about 3.14% in tips
Catty Bat Art Market 2025: Collected about 9.35% in tips
San Japan 2024: Collected about 3.9% in tips
ANYC 2024: Collected about 3.7% in tips
All of this is just to say yeah I turned tips on on square for market events.
BTW I don’t have tip options for my online ventures. I don’t even like to maintain an online store that I need to do the fulfillment for. My online listings are my apparel/screenprinted goods only. Oh, I also just casually have my vgen open all the time - but I only want to take drawing commissions for fun drawings.
