50 questions survey

Quick update - I made some changes to my blog theme FOR FUN.

- Implemented larger font and it’s also now a monoline font :) i truly forgot that I just love plaintext in general.

- Went into my theme css and added rounded corners - SO CUTE!!

- Changed out the colors of everything - colors are based off a palette I made. I generally love minimal colors for websites so I may to back to something simple, but tried this for now.

you know me I love a questions survey. from Bekah of The Frugal Blog

Apparently this is originally from the Japanese small web community.

For reading purposes I’ll put this under a cut.

1. Please tell us your name and its origin.

The name is just Fiddery’s Blog b/c that’s what it is. Pretty straightforward.

2. Please tell us the site name and its origin.

My actual handle (fiddery) comes from a time when I decided I should just stick to one internet alias, ha ha. I’ve bounced around using my IRL name I go by, my filipino name that I also use, and various internet aliases. Fiddery is just an elongated version of fiddy which was the nickname of my username at the time (52w/52wk).

3. If you don’t mind, please tell me your date of birth.

LOL

4. What does the site deal with?

My main site is mostly just an default hub that links to my art archives (also using bludit) and basic info about me. I used to link to that page in my bio on social media as a “before you follow” thing but these days I don’t. Mostly people can stumble upon it if they google around.

5. Please tell us your recommended content.

My oc art log or my fanart log are my favorite things!! I like that I can have basic tags for viewing, and can add a date to the posts, but it’s also a bit inconvenient to browse. I draw a lot of sketch work that is never finished so I guess these end up as my digital sketchbooks of sort.

6. Is the content you are working on a hobby? Are you an aspiring professional (or already a professional)?

HOBBY ONLY!!! For art stuff I sometimes do markets but never want to pursue it full time. Dirchansky shared an article recently called What’s the difference between an artist and a creator? Basically I think I’m also a self directed artist but I am not trying to get money out of it.

7. Do you have any offline activities related to the content you are handling?

I guess Artist Alley? I also have lots of IRL/tangible hobbies (all crafty). I think the go hand in hand with the same theme of making stuff for myself freely.

8. Please let us know if there are any people or works that you are aiming for in the content you are handling.

HMMM, I think everything is mostly for myself? I really get to be introspective and learn about myself a lot in all the hobbies I do. I like sharing thing online in case anyone else enjoys stumbling upon my things too.

9. Do you have a set update frequency and update time for your site?

NO. It ebbs and flows. My main site doesn’t get updated much. For my art archives - those get updated when I remember to do that. For the blog I’d like to post at least once a month but that can also vary… posting freely!!

10. For what maximum period have you stopped updating?

I had a gap between March 2023 - June 2025 of no blog updates, lol. I think I forgot I had made a blog and I was also busy.

11. Would you like to get more visitors?

TBH no… I think I only update for myself and the friends that would enjoy following my content. But if you happen to stumble upon this and like similar things, please let me know.

12. Are you happy with the feedback on the content?

Generally yes, LOL. Since it’s mostly for me I’m fine with anything.

13. What do you think about typos and broken links?

I LOVE TYPOS. I’m bad at typing. Broken links are kind of annoying but also just showcase how the internet can sometimes be an ephemeral thing.

14. Do you accept requests?

For art? No…

15. Are there hidden pages?

Not intentionally.

16. Do you have another site?

I have my more “professional” site here. I used to have it set up in bludit but then some time ago I learned about kirby (which TBH i forgot I paid for).

17. Do you allow links? If so, please let me know if there are any conditions.

Yes, people can link freely.

18. Did you have any experience running another site before starting this one?

Yes, here and there in passing. For a while my main goal was to have a portfolio site, but I like to tinker and make a lot of other test sites too.

19. What inspired you to create this site?

Specifically this blog was created to have a very casual yap space!

20. When was this site established?

January 2023 I think. The new year always has me thinking about journals. Dirchansky also started a blog which had revitalized the urge in me to make one!

21. Do you have any celebration plans for the opening anniversary?

Nope, but I think I’ll do an upcoming journal post as well.

22. Do you keep in mind events such as Halloween and Christmas, seasonal changes, and social trends when updating?

Events… maybe. Social trends, no. I really liked recapping my Otakon trip earlier this year as well as my San Japan visit. So seeing those recaps are nice. I think logging projects has been really nice too.

23. Do you use SNS (social media)?

I do! I’m semi-active (I try not to doomscroll). These days I’m mainly using bsky and ig. I mostly follow friends and try to avoid parasocial things. Basically I want to see my friends do cool things!!

IG I typically use to keep in touch with online and IRL friends that aren’t very online (in fandom spaces).

Bsky for me is tied closely to my fandom interests. I really treat it as a microblog and also the first place I’ll post a new drawing. I find it very weird that bsky users can discover other posts even if you don’t tag tho - randos why are you there!!

24. Please tell us why you dare to run a website in this SNS era.

It’s important to me to have my own little weird hub on the internet. I feel like I’ve been operating under the thought that at any moment a social media site I use could implode and make me jump ship - so I want to always have a landing page for myself.

I started backing up my art from twt era (maybe like 2021 ish??). I remember I had gone through a purge of my klance art due to fandom drama and bullying of an artist I was acquainted with. I had the thought that people were so disrespectful so I just decided to take my kl drawings away from a toxic fandom space. Then I started to regularly back up my drawings on my website for my own archival purposes. It paid off since I deleted all my posts on twt and logged off (sadly haven’t deactivated since I do check in on the people that are still here but we will get there!)

25. Is there anything you keep in mind when running your site?

I guess I try to operate on the fact that anyone could stumble and see my posts. So I try not get too deep into details. I also try to keep personal info about my friends vague or using their alias.

26. What is your favorite aspect of running a site?

That I can do anything I like!! That you can customize it to fit your aesthetic and needs.

27. Do you have any problems with site management?

I have a lot of self-taught/DIY knowledge about sites, but there are soooo many technical things I have no idea about. I do have a story from a long time ago where I was using WP as my site system and it actually got hacked. I had to pay a pretty penny to get that fixed, unfortunately.

So since then I’ve opted to use more lightweight systems. Also they are less bloated.

28. Do you ever get embarrassed about content you posted a long time ago and delete it?

YES, absolutely. For while I had my older blog entries here hidden/drafts. But I brought them back when I revived the blog. I have some small regrets of previous purging of internet eras I’ve had. But I think the nature of the internet is that things are permanent and at the same time ephemeral.

I still get embarrassed about my old posts but it’s very nostalgic to see that version of me preserved. I saw some old LJ posts when I was a ranty teen that could find Drama in anything HAHA.

29. Have you ever thought about quitting the site?

Honestly, no. Quitting a site feels so final? I feel like there is no end to a “site”, just pauses.

30. Do you have backups or other measures in place in case your site suddenly disappears?

I wish but I don’t. I have been very bad at keeping backups of a lot of things these days (other than Important Documents). I do sort of have a backup of this blog though, because I draft everything up offline on Scrivener before posting.

31. If you were to die tomorrow, would you leave your website behind? Do you want to delete it?

The website would stay up for however long I have the hosting and domain for. I would be fine to have all my sites still up for as long as they stay.

32. Are you okay if your family or real-life friends and acquaintances see your site?

Yes. I don’t hide it but also don’t draw attention to it. I can be a snooper sometimes so I assume the same for others, haha.

33. How much of a difference do you think there is between your online image and your real-life personality?

I don’t think there’s much of a difference. In fact I think my online personality meshes more with IRL self more and more each year! Not that I was masking as a “normie” person before, but as I get older I’m just a bit more open with all my interests IRL.

34. What kind of people do you want to visit your site?

People that are my friends and also like-minded? I’m not a tech person at all, just a hobbyist. So I guess I hope that other people who think it’s cool to have your own little weird site for your hobbies and such find me too.

35. Are you registered for searches or rankings?

No, and I’m not sure if I ever will??

36. Are you part of an alliance (Japanese webrings, which don’t maintain lists of members)?

No, not at this moment. I remember participating in some during the early website days but right now I’m content to just hang out by myself.

37. Please tell me the service or server you are using.

I don’t want to mention it because I don’t want to promote them. Ideally I’d like to go somewhere else. But I’m in a bit of a convenience cycle where I usually pay for 3 years of hosting up front so it’s not so easy to change without jumping through a lot of hoops. Please rec me somewhere if you have any good ideas.

38. Why did you choose that service or server?

I subscribed a long time ago (10 years ago) and just haven’t changed. The main thing that is important for me is that I keep my domain and hosting separate though.

39. Do you use templates?

Yes! I am too lazy to try to make my own. I like tinkering with the CSS though.

40. How well do you know the languages used to create homepages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP?

I’m pretty familiar with HTML, CSS, and I guess the logic of PHP? But no formal training. For CSS especially I’m always looking at the W3 articles, lol. Technically I learned some Javascript in CommSci in high school but nothing functional.

41. When operating your site, do you ever pay attention to the number of accesses and update frequency of other sites?

Not really.

42. Please let me know if you have any recommendations for sites or books that support site production.

I don’t know any real tools but I think knowing how to troubleshoot and look up your problems to problem solve is an important skill. Most likely someone has already asked about or solved the issue you are dealing with.

43. What is your working environment (devices, etc.)?

I have MBP and PC - I work on both. We use the apple ecosystem at work so I won’t be leaving that anytime soon.

44. Please tell me where and when you usually work.

At home. At a coffee shop after work. I sometimes write blogs when I should be working on something else.

45. Do you often listen to music, radio, etc. while working?

Lately I’m listing to podcasts while drawing - I enjoy the conversational ones. I put on music sometimes when I need to focus. Weirdly as I type this I’m not listening to anything.

46. Is there a drink you often drink while working?

Coffee and water, ha ha ha!!! I will sometimes add a sparkling fun drink as a treat.

47. Do you think you will still be using this site in 10 years?.

Probably some iteration of it! What will the internet be like in 10 years, I wonder.

48. What is your ideal site?

I guess sites that reflect the interests of the person? I really like clicking around and seeing the cool things that someone might have collected. I do really love seeing blog posts though.

49. Please let me know if there is anything you would like to do on the site in the future.

Posting more hobby updates. Dirchansky is one of my only friends who regularly blogs so I like referencing those posts as a theme. I like that I see project updates, things that they’ve read, etc etc.

50. Please give me one last comment.

YAY thank you for reading.
