cross stitch project 1

I haven’t been drawing (multiple reasons) but I still wanted some kind of craft so I’ve now entered my cross stitching phase.

I’ve had several aunts who used to cross stitch (my mom’s sister has a Precious Moments cross stitch that hangs in our half bath at my parent’s place lol). I remember one of my titas (or lolas?) had one of those cross stitch stands.

Anyways I picked a medium-ish sized kit so that I had a project to work towards. I think cross stitch is not very popular these days compared to embroidery and punch needling, so pickings were a little bit slim. But I have been having a lot of fun!

I picked a pattern with lots of forgiveness (with counting mistakes, lol) and has a lot of fun colors that I enjoy. I have been spending ~2 hours each day on this - usually while listening to a podcast. I progress enough to use all 6 strands of the floss color I’m currently on OR until I finish that color patch.

About 3 days in I stopped by Daiso to pick up a clear document holder (hard case) so that I could bring the kit around me everywhere. I have lots of plain magnets that I use as a needle minder/holding things in place.

After I finish this project I’m going to tackle a larger DIY project. I already ordered some of the accessories/floss from 123stitch (site recommended from some reddit posts I saw) since I wanted to avoid ordering from big corpo and try my best to order from a small business. They also have some fun looking traditional looking kits that I MAY pick up to have 2 projects at once? Idk.

I also love when niche craft businesses have super old looking shop sites. It’s so good! I love it more than garbage algorithim/SEO based shop sites lol.

Daily Pics and Progress!! (under cut so it's not crazy) - So far I have made lots of counting mistakes LOL. I think I may work better with rectangle/square patterns

Day 1 (9/6) - Opened kit

Day 1 (9/6) - It was suggested to start with the middle. I misread instructions and made the brown thread too thick LOL.

Day 2 (9/7) - Continued progress

Day 3 (9/8) - Working with the black thread - lol colors

Day 3 (9/8) - Horizon line - I like the swatches that are easy to count...

Day 4 (9/9) - Getting to some of the fun colors!! Blue. So pretty.

Day 5 (9/10) - 2nd color of blue

Day 6 (9/11) - Worked on some of this during lunch

Day 7 (9/12) - Brought my cross stitch to work on while waiting for my car to be serviced. This definitely made time pass by so quickly...

Day 7 (9/12) - More progress. Poppy usually loafs by the desk while I work hehe.

Day 8 (9/13) - Filled in the confetti ish areas of the meadow

Day 9 (9/14) - I had to substitute a brown thread from my stash (either from hand embroidery patches or old embroidery floss from friendship bracelets) for the reflection. It's not perfect but it will do LOL.

Day 10 (9/15) - I'm tackling the bottom left quarter of the circle since the hoop is not an exact size.

Day 11 (9/16) - Lunchtime cross stitch. I only have time to work on this if I decide to eat lunch somewhere by myself lol (otherwise I do usually chat with my colleagues).
